Dehumanisation and self-assertion

How do individuals respond to extreme situations - and how are these situations created?

Buchenwald entrance gate

Students will look at different sources related to inmates and guards of Buchenwald Concentration Camp (photos, artefacts, music, commander’s orders) and try to understand what happened and why. Students will approach different sources and the stories related to them – and thus fathom that no two people approach one event the same way. This activity offers separate modules which students or teachers can pick from and put together – they all highlight different but corresponding aspects of life in the camp.
